Strip Search Victim Says Perry ‘Should Not Be In A Position Of Power’

A woman illegally strip-searched by a Wareham Police officer in the 1991 incident involving the officer’s supervisor, former Sgt. Jeff Perry, has released a statement harshly criticizing the now-candidate for Congress, saying Perry “should not be in a position of power.”

Rep. Jeff Perry (AP)

In the statement first released to the Boston Globe, the woman, Lisa Allen, described her take on the incident:

Perry knew what (convicted former officer Scott) Flanagan did, he had to hear me screaming and crying. Instead of helping me, Jeff Perry denied anything happened.

Allen was 14 at the time.

Perry, a Republican state representative, is running to fill the open 10th Congressional District seat against Democratic Norfolk County District Attorney Bill Keating.

“Jeff Perry was not an honest police sergeant; he should not be in a position of power,” Allen said.

Allen’s attorney, Howard Friedman, who released the statement on behalf of his client, denied that the move was driven by partisan politics. The statement was released 13 days before Election Day.

“I don’t think it’s that she has political leanings and that she has any affection, necessarily, for the other candidate,” Friedman said to WBUR. “I think she simply, well, she says in her statement, she doesn’t believe that Jeff Perry was good cop.

“The incident upset her when it took place, and it continues to upset her. She’s particularly upset that Jeff Perry can run for Congress after what he did to her.”

The Perry campaign has not yet responded directly to the statement but did release a new radio ad, which features Sen. Scott Brown condemning Keating’s “negative attacks concerning an incident that took place almost two decades ago and which didn’t directly involve Jeff.”

  • Um, Joe, it *was* brought up 20 years ago. And the town was sued, twice, losing one case and settling the other out of court. And then it was covered up and forgotten for 20 years.

  • It’s make me wonder, if Jeff Perry was culpable 20 years ago of anything… why wasn’t this brought up then… 20 year old allegations are one thing… but 20 days before an election, is just a smear campaign tactic. Kick all the incumbents and let’s start fresh…

  • Strange that more people aren’t outraged by bad cop behavior. I guess it wasn’t their daughter or girlfriend… We want to hear from the boy these cops were holding when this “search’ [really a power grope]went down… What was his name, where is he…?? What does HE have to say?? What did HE hear..??
